Queensland grandmother found murdered in home 'had been threatened'

A man and woman have been questioned by police over the stabbing murder of a Townsville grandmother, as details emerged she had been living in fear following numerous threats.

Relatives of Ruth Dodd told News Corp they had warned the well-known community volunteer to flee after a number of family members had harassed and threatened the 71-year-old.

A relative reportedly said the woman being questioned by police was "a high drug user" who was "always after money".

Ms Dodd allegedly told the woman "no more" and "had been threatened" for refusing.

The relative, who has contacted Crime Stoppers, said they had urged Ms Dodd to take out restraining orders.

Ms Dodd had also reportedly been under pressure from someone who wanted her Heatley home.

On Friday afternoon, her neighbour had contacted police after hearing an argument.

When police visited the Dalrymple Road home just after 2pm they found the 71-year-old dead.

"We have a number of specialists out at the residence working through the forensic examination," Detective Acting Superintendent Cheryl Scanlon said.

A blue Holden Astra hatchback owned by Ms Dodd is at the centre of the investigation after being found by police dumped in a nearby street two hours after her body was found.

Police are now attempting to find out who drove the car between 10.30am and 4pm.

Investigators told 9NEWS they are speaking with two people who are assisting police with their enquiries.
