Queensland dad meets baby for first time as families reunite

A Queensland dad has met his baby daughter for the first time after months of separation due to hard border rules.

Sione Tapuosi had travelled interstate for work before Queensland's border closed to the rest of Australia.

Now, as Queensland reopens, he's been able to meet his five-month-old baby for the first time at Brisbane Airport.

Teraful reunions took place across the state, as Queensland's hard border dropped 1am on Monday. Nine

"I'm just lost for words," Mr Tapuosi said.

"Still doesn't feel real that I'm holding her. Yeah it's crazy."

Temisha Lealiifano said she's happy to have her family together again.

"I've been waiting for this moment for five months. It's good to see them together finally."

Meanwhile, after a two-year wait and following four cancelled flights, grandmother Jayne Murray has finally met her granddaughter Macey.

"Absolutely out of this world, amazing. I can't believe I'm seeing her in the flesh," Ms Murray said.

"We just need this pandemic to be over with."

Nearby, Cameron Brown was also anticipating his little girl's arrival.

"We haven't seen each other since February, it's great she's coming up for a month."

Teary reunions have taken place across the state, as families reunited after months and even years of separation.

"She's four months old today so I've been hanging out for my family to meet her."
