Murder investigation after woman found dead in Queensland home

A murder investigation is underway after a woman was found dead inside a home in Queensland's Moreton Bay region.

Police were called to the Bongaree property for a welfare check around 9pm on Thursday but when officers arrived they found a 51-year-old woman dead.

Officers declared a crime scene and began a homicide investigation.

Detective Inspector Ben Fadian said a "disturbance" at the house on Wednesday was reported to police on Thursday, which sparked the welfare check.

"As a result of that, we conducted a welfare check at the address and located the female person deceased inside," he said.

Fadian said there are no "firm" suspects at this stage.

"We're seeking information from members of the public who may have been in the Bongaree area on Wednesday night," he said.

"To date, our information is the deceased lady was the only person living at the home at that time."

Fadian said it was a "very confronting" scene for emergency services to attend.

He added it is the early stages of the investigation and police are keeping an "open mind" about whether it was a "break and enter or something else".

Fadian said police attended the address a week before the woman was found dead.

Neighbours said the only thing that seemed odd was the property's outside lights being left on for days.

"The outside lights have been on since the beginning of earlier in the week," neighbour Eunice Dossel said.

"It's the only thing that woke me up to the fact that there was something not normal."

Police are appealing for anyone with information or CCTV of the area between February 14 and 16 to come forward.
