North Queensland man fatally shot in own home

A 35-year-old man has been fatally shot in the chest in his North Queensland home.

Police confirmed they were called to a Watsonville residence around 3.50pm yesterday, where they discovered the 35-year-old dead at the scene.

It's alleged he was killed by a single gunshot to the chest fired by a 32-year-old man following an altercation between the two of them.

The 32-year-old was arrested at the house and charged with murder.

Detective Inspector Anthony Law from Tablelands Criminal Investigation Branch said investigations were continuing.

"Upon arrival at the scene, police located the 35-year-old deceased and arrested a 32-year-old Watsonville man," Detective Inspector Law said.

It's alleged the man shot the victim with a rifle, which is currently being examined by the forensic unit.

It's believed the men were known to each other and that the call to police came from other residents within the home.

"We believe they are also residents at that address. Whether or not they witnessed the event or not is still under investigation," Detective Inspector Law said.

The 32-year-old has been denied bail and will appear in court today.

"It certainly won't be alleged by us that there was any issue with the arrest, there was no resistance from the offender," Detective Inspector Law said.
