Queensland teen jailed for car jacking, dragging woman hundreds of metres

A teenager has been jailed following a carjacking incident that saw a woman dragged hundreds of metres on a Queensland street.

A Brisbane court heard Theo Fewquandie, 19, was on bail and likely affected by methamphetamine during the incident, which took place at the Buranda Village shopping centre in January last year.

The court heard Fewquandie had been hospitalised the day before after injecting large quantities of the drug, and had assaulted a security guard in the hospital by spitting on him.

Fewquandie was released from hospital two hours before the carjacking.

The court heard a woman and her partner had been getting take away at the shopping centre when the 19-year-old jumped into the driver's seat of the vehicle while the woman was still inside.

The teen took off while the woman struggled to escape from the car, getting caught in the passenger seat belt.

CCTV footage of the incident was played to the court, showing the woman being dragged along the road as Fewquandie tore through the carpark.

Witnesses rushed to help her.

"I thought for sure if someone doesn't stop him she was going to die," Joe Lancaster told 9News at the time.

Fewquandie only stopped driving when he crashed into a wall.

He then fled the scene. He was arrested hours later.

The Brisbane woman is now permanently disfigured and was treated for burns to a third of her body after the incident.

She spent 17 days recovering from her injuries in the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Fewquandie was sentenced to five years in jail for multiple charges but will be eligible for parole in September due to time already served.

He has been disqualified from holding a drivers licence for four years.
