Out-of-control truck smashes into almost a dozen parked cars on Sunshine Coast

Nearly a dozen cars have been smashed by an out-of-control truck on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. 

The truck carrying building material lost its brakes on a steep hill in Alexandra Headland at 7am today.

The vehicle smashed into nine cars and a caravan as it slipped down the street.

It came to a stop on the side of a retaining wall and its load of besser blocks spilled onto the street.

Neighbours told 9News it was so loud it sounded like a train had crashed outside their homes.

Many soon realised their cars had been written-off, including former federal politician Mal Brough.

Brough's house was also partly damaged in the carnage.

"Letterboxes ended up 10 metres away at the front of our steps, a bit of damage around there and and the van has been moved," he said.

It has taken all day for the area to be cleaned up with several tow trucks needed to clear the scene. 

It is understood the truck was initially delivering the besser blocks to a home undergoing renovations.

The driver of the truck was looked over by paramedics but he didn't need to be taken to hospital.

No one else in the street was injured.
