Queensland government pledges $2.8 billion to tackle housing crisis
The upcoming Queensland state budget will include billions of dollars in funding to tackle the housing crisis gripping much of the country.
Today the government revealed it has set aside $2.8 billion to build new homes and other housing options like domestic violence shelters.
"It's a major announcement that will underpin the state government's response to the housing crisis," Queensland's Deputy Premier Cameron Dick said.

The plan promises to create up to 600 new modular homes that will be built in factories to speed up the rollout.
There is also a target to build 53,500 new social homes by 2046, including youth foyers, domestic and family violence shelters and emergency housing.
The Queensland Council of Social Services (QCOSS) welcomed the announcement, but also said more needs to be done to help renters.
It estimates that around 150,000 people across the state are still unable to access affordable housing.
Brisbane is now the second most expensive capital city in the country when it comes to housing, overtaking Canberra's average price last month.
The median price for a house in Brisbane is now $937,479.
The national median dwelling price is now at $779,817, according to data released by CoreLogic in April.
"We have a classic story of supply and demand, there is not enough housing for our growing population," QCOSS chief executive Amy McVeigh said.
