Police and firies get a boost in Queensland Budget

Tomorrow's Queensland Budget will boost the state's Fire and Emergency budget to $702 million, including nearly $30 million for an extra 100 firefighters, 180 new fire trucks and a dozen communication officers.

Treasurer Jackie Trad will tomorrow hand down her first budget, with cash splashes on health and infrastructure, funded in part by four new taxes and a waste levy of $70 a tonne.

The taxes are for luxury car owners, foreign property investors and online bets plus a new land tax category for an estimated 850 large holdings that don't include farms. They're expected to bring in $163.3 million a year over the next three years to bring down debt. due to hit $83 billion in four years.

Facilities at Loganlea, West Logan and Mt Ommaney will get a facelift while 10 new stations will be built.

"People will see more police more often, because we're able to deploy police faster and better in response to criminal activity," police minister Mark Ryan said.
