ALP will trim Queensland government if elected: Palaszczuk

Queensland opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has vowed to trim any cabinet she leads should she win the state election, limiting herself to 14 ministers.

This is down from 19 current LNP Ministers - and Ms Palaszczuk has also promised to use just one assistant minister, instead of the 12 being utilised by the LNP.

She said the changes would save $27 million, which would be redirected into frontline services.

The Labor leader also said there would be no job cuts to the public service.

She maintained her team would cope with the changes, but does not yet know what departments would be combined.

"These are issues that I am in the planning stages for," she said.

Federal opposition leader Bill Shorten joined Ms Palaszczuk on the campaign trail today.

The pair are keen to combine their political messages and capitalise on Prime Minister Tony Abbott's current unpopularity.

"Whenever yous scratch the surface of (Queensland premier) Campbell Newman, you get Tony Abbott," Mr Shorten said.
