Woman hit with sledge hammer in Cairns

A woman has been hit in the head with a sledge hammer during a confrontation at a home in north Queensland.

The woman was allegedly attacked by a man who had bashed on the door of the house at Edmonton in Cairns on Friday night.

She was treated for a cut in hospital after a man in the house came to her aid.

A 40-year-old man has been charged over the incident and is due face the Cairns Magistrates Court on October 13.
