Elderly woman critical after knife attack in Queensland

A man out on bail has left a woman in a critical condition after allegedly breaking into her Queensland home and attacking her with a knife.

The 20-year-old allegedly entered the 71-year-old woman's Torquay home on Saturday night via a window, before stabbing her in the face and neck.

Police found the man inside and charged him with unlawful wounding, grievous bodily harm, burglary and breach of bail.

He will face Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Monday.

The woman, who police say is not known to her attacker, was flown to a Brisbane hospital for treatment, where she remains in a critical but stable condition.
