Damaging winds and heavy rainfall are set to lash parts of the Sunshine State.

A severe weather warning has been issued for most of the central Queensland coast, with places from Gladstone to St Lawrence in the firing line.

Heavy rainfall is expected to develop over parts of southern central districts on Friday and persist into Saturday, while damaging wind gusts are likely around the Capricorn Coast and adjacent inland areas.

Gusts of about 90km/h and isolated six-hourly falls exceeding 90mm are possible, with some potential for flash flooding, the weather bureau warns.
