'We don't have to worry about Mr Cowan'

Bruce Morecombe feels no need to celebrate the ruling which keeps his son's killer behind bars.

He expected Brett Peter Cowan to lose his appeal and simply says the decision was "right."

"I always remained faithful in the justice system that good police work, good forensic work ... has resulted in a guilty person being maintained with a guilty verdict. It was the right thing," he said.

Mr Morcombe emerged from the Brisbane Supreme Court on Thursday wearing a suit, his trademark red tie, and a look of contained relief after Cowan lost his appeal against his conviction for abducting and killing 13-year-old Daniel 11 years ago.

In calm, measured tones and with the dignity the Morcombes have become known for, he told the waiting media it had been a long process.

"Eleven-and-a-half years ago was the last time Denise and I and the family saw Daniel," he said.

"We don't forget, and today we hope Mr Cowan doesn't forget. His actions have resulted in him spending a minimum of 20 years in jail - and we hope they're tough."

In the same court complex more than 12 months ago, there were sighs of relief when 45-year-old Cowan was found guilty of Daniel's murder.

On Thursday, it was a more relaxed Bruce Morcombe who spoke with clarity and calmness.

He insisted his evening, spent without his wife Denise who was travelling interstate, would be unremarkable.

"There won't be any celebrations," Mr Morcombe said.

"It's not a moment of celebration. Reflection, for sure, but we hope he does his 20 years plus really tough."
