Two women injured after running out in front of traffic in Surfers Paradise

Two women were taken to hospital in a critical condition after they were hit by a car on the Gold Coast overnight.

Police believe the pair, aged 40 and 77, were trying to cross Ferny Avenue at Surfers Paradise at about 8pm when they were struck by a black hatchback.

Both women, believed to be from overseas, were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition with what appeared to be head injuries and fractures. 

They are now in a stable condition.

Police said investigations are continuing.
