Two men missing in boating incidents off Queensland

Air and sea searches are underway off the Queensland coast for two men missing in separate boating incidents.

A 60-year-old man went missing at Conical Rocks, about 15km off Yepoon, on Tuesday as he tried to swim for a boat which was dragging its anchor.

He and a 62-year-old man chased after the seven-metre boat in an inflatable dingy before trying to swim to the boat at about 3am, police say.

Only the 62-year-old made it to the boat, where he set off a flare notifying authorities of his missing partner.

An air and sea search continues today after the pair's inflatable raft and a life jacket were discovered yesterday.

Some 1000km north another search is underway for a 55-year-old man in waters off Innisfail.

The search began at 6.40pm on Tuesday after a boat belonging to the man was found drifting in the mouth of the Johnstone River.

Coastline from South Barnard Islands to Cooper Point was searched but the man was not found.

The search continues off the coast involving water police, the volunteer coast guard, helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

Police are appealing to any boaties who were in the area prior to 6.40pm yesterday that might have seen a white 5.6 meter Bar Crusher vessel with a maroon stripe and a Suzuki outboard motor to contact police.
