Tributes flow for Qld pub fire victim

Friends of a man who died in a blaze that destroyed a historic Queensland pub have spoken about how he had just begun to turn his life around before the tragedy.

Brisbane man Steven Green, 26, was one of 12 people inside the Tattersalls Club Hotel at Pittsworth, near Toowoomba, when it was engulfed by flames about 2.30am on Thursday.

He was the only one who was unable to escape and emergency crews found his body in the rubble several hours later.

Mr Green and several colleagues were in Pittsworth overnight to doorknock for charity.

Friends have since taken to social media to pay their respects.

"They say the good die young and this is very true," Gypsie-Lee Edwards Kennard posted on Facebook.

"I send all my love and strength to your family and friends and know your beautiful soul will always be watching over us."

One woman posted how Mr Green had just begun to turn his life around and had been supporting her in her struggles with drug addiction.

"If I feel like using I'll just remember the conversation we had about how he has been clean for 12 m + (sic)," she wrote.

"I'll always remember that the road to recovery is a journey but it's defs worth it. Lets make him proud."

Investigations into the fire are continuing and a report is being prepared for the coroner.

Detective Inspector Dave Isherwood said on Thursday that initial investigations suggested the fire started in the pub's accommodation quarters and didn't appear to be suspicious.

Floral tributes began to appear on a fence surrounding the pub on Friday.
