Trains resume after Qld derailment

A backlog of freight train services is beginning to clear following the reopening of a northwest Queensland rail line that had been closed for weeks due to a train derailment.

A train carrying more than 800,000 litres of sulfuric acid, of which about 31,500 litres spilled, overturned near Julia Creek on December 27, closing the Mount Isa line.

An 800-metre bypass was completed on Tuesday, allowing freight services and the Inlander passenger train to resume.
