Trad steps in to lead Qld after house saga

Jackie Trad will temporarily act as Queensland's leader after being spared an investigation by the anti-corruption body over a Brisbane property buy that has rattled the state government.

The Crime and Corruption Commission cleared the deputy premier and Treasurer of dishonesty and corruption allegations over her failure to properly declare an investment home.

Ms Trad will keep her job but will not return as administrator of the $5.4 billion Cross River Rail, a role she had temporarily stepped aside from amid the integrity saga.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones will now take on that responsibility.

The home is along the route of the state's biggest infrastructure project, and she has promised to sell it at the same price her husband bought it for with a family trust.

"I failed to complete a disclosure process, that's what happened," she said on Friday.

She will step in as acting premier when Annastacia Palaszczuk travels to Switzerland on Saturday.

The premier however, will have to find a right-hand man after her chief of staff resigned on Friday amid a separate crisis.

David Barbagallo remains under assessment by the CCC after a business he directs and part owns received a government grant to develop a smartphone app.

The CCC has made a raft of recommendations including criminal penalties for failure to declare a conflict and failure to update the register of interests, which Ms Palaszczuk has accepted.
