Top Qld silk to pay $240 for speeding

A top Queensland barrister will have to cough up $240 after losing a legal challenge over a speeding fine.

Tony Morris QC was found guilty in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday of driving 7km/h over the limit in a 50km/h zone in St Lucia in 2014.

It came after the prominent silk unsuccessfully contested the ticket in Queensland's Court of Appeal in 2015 on the basis he was not the driver of the car, although he did not say who was.

Mr Morris, who headed a state inquiry into former surgeon Jayant Patel, spent about 90 minutes arguing his case.

Before it was knocked back, it was speculated to have the potential to help countless Queensland motorists get out of speeding fines.

But as he left the court on Friday, Mr Morris told media outside it was worth challenging the fine even though he lost.

He will have to pay $153 and court costs of $87.
