Toddler's family involved with NGO

A non-government organisation had been working with the family of a Queensland toddler in the 12 months before her death from untreated burns on Thursday.

Maddilyn-Rose Stokes died in hospital after paramedics arrived at her family's Northgate townhouse to find her unconscious.

Police told reporters on Friday Maddilyn-Rose had suffered severe, life-threatening burns stretching from her lower back to her feet several days earlier but her parents did not seek help until Thursday afternoon.

Responding to questions about the family's involvement with Child Safety officials on Saturday, Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said they'd been working with a non-government organisation in the months leading up to Maddilyn's death.

"Over the last year there had been a non-government organisation working with the family," she said.

"I don't want to pre-empt any police investigation, let's allow them to do their work, and I'm happy to make further comment once I have that information."

The girl's parents, a 23-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, have told police her injuries were caused by hot bath water, an account authorities say was consistent with the nature of the burns.

A crime scene was established at the family's Ridge Street home and police were investigating whether charges should be laid over the incident.

An investigation was ongoing and no charges had been laid as of Saturday afternoon, a spokesman for Queensland Police said.
