Three charged over Cairns 'copycat' kidnap

Three people have been charged over an alleged "copycat" abduction of a Cairns woman who was forced to flee into cane fields after being hit with a pole or bat.

Police allege the 32-year-old woman was abducted from her Cairns home over a drug debt on Thursday night, before being taken to a park where she managed to escape into fields, across train tracks and into a Chinese restaurant.

A man, a woman and a 17-year-old girl all face multiple charges, including deprivation of liberty and assault occasioning bodily harm in company.

The girl and the woman, 24, were listed to appear in the Cairns Magistrate Court on Saturday.

The man, 27, is due to appear later in the month.

Police allege the woman was bound with electrical tape and cable ties during the attack, which was interrupted by a large group of people who were at the park when abductors arrived.

They say the incident has no links to a similar weekend abduction in the same city, which led to a man allegedly being tied to a tree and left for dead in bushland.

In the second attack the woman suffered a fractured skull and eye socket but has been able to give a statement to police.

Police say around twenty witnesses are also co-operating.
