Qld terror suspect applies for legal aid

A man being held on remand in Queensland charged with terror-related offences has applied for legal aid to help fund his defence.

Agim Kruezi, 23, was one of two men arrested during counter-terrorism raids in Brisbane and Logan in September last year.

He's facing seven charges related to allegations he stockpiled weapons in preparation for a home-soil terrorist act, that he was preparing for incursions into war-torn Syria, and that he recruited people to join that fight.

Kruezi was due to face a committal hearing in Brisbane next week, but the hearing was cancelled on Wednesday when the Brisbane Magistrates Court heard he was still waiting legal aid approval.

Another man arrested on the same day, former Islamic Centre bookstore owner Omar Succarieh, 32, is alleged to have helped arrange for Kruezi to join the fight in Syria and of sending money to aid the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group.

Succarieh is also on remand ahead of a Supreme Court trial on three charges.

Kruezi's case is due to be mentioned in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on October 21.
