Teen escapes custody in central Qld

A teenager has escaped custody in central Queensland while police were transporting him from court to the watch house.

The 17-year-old was being moved from Emerald Magistrates Court about 5pm on Tuesday when he took off.

He was last seen running into a neighbouring yard on Yamala Street and stole a 2010 Nissan Navara, police said in a statement on Tuesday evening.

The vehicle's registration number is 089WJU and the man is described as Caucasian with a slim build, brown hair and brown eyes.

Police urged anyone who sees the vehicle in the Springsure area to contact authorities.

It's understood the man was in custody for a breach of bail offence and is not considered to be dangerous.
