Teachers to honour detained student

Brisbane teachers who have taken historic industrial action in support of an asylum-seeking high school student are to recognise her achievements with an award.

Mojgan Shamsalipoor, 21, has recorded a video message from inside the Darwin detention centre where she managed to complete her year 12 studies, to thank teachers who unanimously voted to award her with the school's annual prize for perseverance.

More than 50 teachers from Yeronga State High School, including principal Terry Heath, staged a strike and rally on Tuesday calling on the government to release Ms Shamsalipoor.
