Teacher on porn charges remains suspended

A Brisbane primary school teacher accused of possessing child porn will remain suspended until criminal charges against him are finalised, a tribunal has ruled.

Maximillian Ernst Hodgess, 43, was charged by the Crime and Corruption Commission in June after he was allegedly found with more than 7000 encrypted child exploitation images and videos.

The Queensland College of Teachers suspended his teacher's registration, but a decision on its continuation was referred to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

Senior tribunal member Kerrie O'Callaghan said Hodgess had not filed any submissions as to why the suspension should end.

"I am not satisfied that it is an exceptional case in which the best interests of children would not be harmed if the suspension were to be ended before the criminal charges had been finalised," she said in her decision.

Hodgess is yet to enter a plea and is due to reappear in court next month.
