Man charged over bomb hoax in Brisbane

A man has been charged with staging a bomb hoax after a Brisbane park was cordoned off when a suspicious item was found in a toilet block.

Police declared an emergency after the item was found in Captain Burke Park at Kangaroo Point on Thursday evening.

Specialist police examined the item and declared it safe.

Police early on Friday said a 28-year-old man from Deception Bay had been charged with staging a bomb hoax and was to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday.

A second man questioned by police was released without charge.
