A suspicious "device" that sparked the evacuation of a street in Brisbane's CBD was actually a set of cutlery.

Queensland police evacuated Ann Street at about 10am on Tuesday after a pedestrian found a suspicious package on the footpath.

The area between Edward and Albert Streets was initially closed to pedestrians, with police later also diverting cars.

The bomb squad spent about an hour investigating the package, which was found to be a piece of plastic pipe containing a knife, fork and spoon.

The area has been reopened.
