Suspended mayor's bail conditions changed

Suspended Ipswich Mayor Andrew Antoniolli has had one of his bail conditions reinstated after it was inadvertently removed.

A bail variation last month removed a condition that Antoniolli not contact any witnesses related to his fraud matters as a result of a "misunderstanding" by prosecutors.

In Ipswich Magistrates Court on Friday his lawyers agreed to have the condition reinstated, but stressed the agreement didn't amount to an admission of any guilt on Antoniolli's part.

The suspended mayor is facing seven fraud charges, which he has vowed to vigorously defend.

Antoniolli is charged with using council funds to bid on auction items for his personal use, and is set to face trial in September.

Under the reinstated conditions, Antoniolli is barred from contacting any Ipswich council employee or councillor, including several relating to his fraud matter.

It comes as the state government moves to pass laws to sack Ipswich City Council, with 15 current and former councillors and staff facing almost 80 fraud and corruption charges.
