Southeast Queenslanders are set to be gifted some fairly pleasant Christmas weather, with mostly sunny conditions and close to average temperatures expected.

However, those further north, particularly between Bundaberg and Townsville, are unlikely to be as rapt by their forecast amid predictions of showers and potential thunderstorms.

Those living in the state's southern interior should also consider moving celebrations indoors with rain and thunderstorms expected.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Mark Trenorden said Queenslanders should be reasonably pleased with the Christmas forecast considering no extreme weather was forecast.

"There's nothing too significant (forecast)," he said.

"The maximum temperatures will be close to average in most parts of the state, except the the northwest which will be a few degrees below due to cloud cover."
