Spearfisherman pokes shark

A fearless fisherman in Queensland has captured the moment he jabbed a great white shark with his spear in a bid to shoo the predator away from his mates.

Trevor Ketchion was spearfishing off the Sunshine Coast yesterday when he spotted the shark not far from where he and his friends were swimming.

Rather than wait and see what would happen if the fish got too close Mr Ketchion took a breath and dived below the surface to confront the shark.

Leading with his spear the fisherman closes in on the predator from above and jabs it in the middle of its back.

The shark appears relatively unbothered by the attack and swims off slowly.
