A public nuisance charge against a soldier who sparked panic and school lockdowns in Brisbane has been dropped.

Nicholas Paul Latham sparked a major police operation when he went out on a "training" mission in December, dressed in camouflage gear and carrying an item that resembled a gun.

The charge against the 26-year-old was dropped in the Holland Park Magistrates Court on Tuesday after police said there was no evidence to offer.

Rochedale High School, Redeemer Lutheran College and Rochedale Early Learning Centre were all sent into lockdown while police tracked him down.

At the time, the defence force apologised for the disruption.
