Pakistani man dies while snorkelling on Great Barrier Reef

A snorkeller has died on the Great Barrier Reef near Cairns, in far north Queensland.

Police say the Pakistani man was last seen heading to Briggs Reef about 12.30pm Monday.

A search was launched when the man failed to return to his boat by 2pm.

Searchers found a body in the water about 4.20pm.

Police intend to prepare a report for the coroner.
