Sleepy driver rams police car near Cairns

A sleeping driver has rammed a police car near Cairns, injuring two officers who'd just returned to their vehicle.
The officers suffered minor injuries after being struck by the motorist's four-wheel drive late on Wednesday. The driver had fallen asleep at the wheel on the Bruce Highway.
The officers had just completed a traffic stop and were sitting in their vehicle, with their flashing lights still on, when they were struck from behind.

The officers were treated in hospital along with the motorist who also had minor injuries.
All have since been released.
The crash caused significant damage to the patrol car. Investigations continue.
