Queensland charity founder Yas Matbouly faces 51 charges, accused of sexually assaulting multiple women

The founder of a well-known Queensland charity supporting the homeless has today fronted court accused of sexually assaulting multiple women.
Yas Matbouly is the founder of Serving Our People, a not-for-profit providing free groceries and other services to people on the Gold Coast.
The former CEO was charged with 51 offences last night - including 34 counts of sexual assault, 14 counts of rape, assault occasioning bodily harm and attempted rape - against three women in their 20s known to him between April and November last year.

The 50-year-old stepped down as CEO of Serving Our People in December.
Yesterday, the Mermaid Beach charity was raided by detectives, with Matbouly handing himself in to police at the final hour.
Prosecutors told the court "he engaged in unwanted physical contact built up to the level of sexual assault and rape, to the point the victim felt she had no choice but to submit out of survival and fear", labelling his alleged offending as "calculated".
Former charity volunteers and employees were also in court today as the allegations were read out.
Matbouly was released on bail today under strict conditions.
The court ordered him to stay at his Mermaid Beach home and report to a local police station twice a week.
He must surrender his passport and is prohibited from entering any international airport terminal.
He's also barred from having any contact with the alleged victims.
He is due to reappear in Southport Magistrates Court next month.
