Severe thunderstorms to hit southeast Qld

Hailstorms and damaging winds are expected as severe thunderstorms move into parts of southeast Queensland.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for the Ipswich, Gympie, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay council areas on Tuesday.

The most damaging storms are affecting Canungra and Jimboomba and were set to hit Mount Tamborine, Tamborine, Coomera and Logan Village before 5pm (AEST).

Residents in these areas should move cars under cover and seek shelter.

A more general warning has been issued for the southeast coast, parts of Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt districts.
