A severe storm warning has been issued for southeast Queensland as two slow-moving thunderstorms make their way across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology says damaging winds and heavy rain is likely in the Boonah, Beaudesert and Laravale areas, southwest of Brisbane, late Wednesday afternoon.

Residents are being urged to move their cars under cover and secure outdoor items.
