A senior Queensland police officer now faces a single domestic violence-related charge after four others were dismissed over a technicality.

The senior sergeant, who is in his 40s and cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with five counts of contravening a protection order late last year in relation to alleged emotional and psychological abuse.

The claims relate to alleged incidents on the Gold Coast in November and December, including at a primary school and a police station.

The man, who represented himself, appeared in the Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday where he questioned why he was facing five charges when he'd been issued with only one notice to appear.

Magistrate Barbara Tynan raised similar issues and also outlined concerns over discrepancies with the addresses listed for each of the charges.

"It seems to me that the charges do not meet the requirements of section 43 of the Justice Act," she said.

"These charges cannot stand as deriving from the one notice to appear that was provided to the defendant."

Prosecutor Julie Pietzner-Hagan, who said the allegations related to emotional and psychological abuse, then offered no evidence for four of the charges which were then dismissed.

The offence that stands relates to an incident at Broadbeach on December 11.

Following the magistrate's comments Ms Pietzner-Hagan said the charges had been brought before the court in less than ideal circumstances.

The officer claimed there had been an abuse of power by police in relation to the charges, but this was disputed by the prosecution.

The man, who has been stood down from duties, was issued with a notice to appear in court last month.

The matter was adjourned until March 15.
