Seeney 'shouldn't head' watchdog

Queensland's former deputy premier Jeff Seeney shouldn't head the anti-corruption committee he helped sack, according to his successor, Jackie Trad.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has rejected the opposition's selection of Mr Seeney to head the Parliamentary Crime and Corruption Commission (PCCC), which oversees the state's corruption watchdog.

Ms Palaszczuk says it's because of his record of criticising that committee's predecessor, the Parliamentary Crime and Misconduct Committee (PCMC).

Mr Seeney, who labelled himself a long-time supporter of the Crime and Corruption Commission, has called on the government to say exactly which comments they're talking about.

But Deputy Premier Jackie Trad says the rejection is also because he was instrumental in sacking the PCMC when in government.

"The Queensland government has made it clear: Jeff Seeney is not an appropriate person to chair the PCCC, and we stand by that," Ms Trad said.

She said it was up to the opposition to put forward a new candidate but the Liberal National Party is standing by its choice.

The LNP government axed the entire PCMC in 2013 and subsequently renamed it the PCCC.
