Second man charged over Qld assault, theft

Police have charged a second man over a burglary and the sexual assault of a woman as she slept in her north Queensland home.

The woman was asleep in her home in the Cairns suburb of Kanimbla on Wednesday morning when she allegedly woke up to a man assaulting her.

The woman screamed and the two men fled, allegedly stealing phones, wallets and a handbag.

Cairns police charged an 18-year-old man a short time later, but the second one escaped.

A 17-year-old man was arrested and charged on Wednesday afternoon with a string of offences, including sexual assault in company and burglary.

He is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
