Search on for missing Qld man after crash
Rescuers searching for a passenger involved in a fatal crash in a remote part of Queensland have found footprints leading into bushland near the scene of the accident.
The 20-year-old male driver was killed in the single vehicle crash on Claraville-Croydon Road at Croydon in the Gulf of Carpentaria and his body was discovered by a member of his family.
But his 25-year-old male passenger was not at the scene, sparking a search operation.
Police are hopeful of finding the man on Friday afternoon after locating the footprints around 9am.
A local mustering helicopter is assisting police and SES officers on the ground while a rescue chopper makes its way from Cairns.
Police say the crash occurred just after midnight and the driver was thrown from the vehicle.
The two men had left a Croydon property about 6pm to visit another property in the area.
When the pair had failed to return home the family member went looking for them and found the wreckage.
Investigations are continuing into what caused the crash.
