Body found in search for teen kayaker missing off Fraser Island

Police have found a body in the search for a teenage kayaker missing off Fraser Island.

Sea, air and land searches were launched after the 19-year-old fell off his kayak about 3.40pm yesterday and failed to reappear, the Queensland Police Service said in a statement. 

The man and his friend had been paddling about 500 metres north of Happy Valley when a wave dislodged both of them from their kayaks, and his friend made it to shore with both of the kayaks.

About 4pm today, a body was found north of where the man was last seen, police said. 

The man had been camping on the island with friends at the time of the accident.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
