Police suspend search for missing kayaker
AAP
Police have suspended the search for a man prompted by the discovery of a frantic dog on a kayak floating on a Gold Coast canal.
The 31-year-old kayaker set out for a paddle with his pet dog about 7am (AEST) on Tuesday at Broadbeach Waters.
A woman walking along the shore spotted the "distressed" dog on a kayak on the canal about an hour later and alerted police, a Queensland police spokeswoman told AAP.

The kayaker was reported missing and a major air and sea search launched along the canal.
There has been no sign of the man who suffers an unspecified medical condition.
Police say they will resume their search at first light on Wednesday.
