Road safety experts gather in Qld

International road safety and transport experts hope sharing the latest research from around the world will help reduce Australia's road toll.

More than 600 international road safety and transport experts will gather on the Gold Coast for the three-day Australasian Road Safety Conference from Wednesday.

The conference will examine road safety infrastructure, education, policing, vehicle design and driver distraction.

The broad range of topics will include the latest research on digital billboards, while University of NSW experts will share their knowledge on the shape of car roofs and whether this can contribute to safety in rollovers.

"With more than 1200 deaths on Australian roads in the past 12 months, we cannot be complacent when it comes to road safety," conference chairperson Professor Narelle Haworth said.

"We need to be doing more to protect our communities."
