2014 REEF REPORT CARD: KEY FINDINGS

* Overall condition of the inshore marine environment: poor

* 0.1 per cent loss of wetlands 2009-2013

* 0.4 per cent loss in riverbank vegetation 2009-2013

* Uptake of best management farming practices exceeding targets in grain industry but lagging behind in sugar cane industry

* 12 per cent annual reduction in sediment (target 20 per cent by 2018)

* 11.5 per cent annual reduction in particulate nitrogen (target 20 per cent by 2018)

* 14.5 per cent annual reduction in particulate phosphorus (target 20 per cent by 2018)

* 17 per cent annual reduction in dissolved inorganic nitrogen (target 50 per cent by 2018)

* 30.5 per cent for pesticides (target 50 per cent by 2018)

* Inshore seagrass showing signs of recovery in areas free from disturbance

* Inshore reefs continuing to improve since their lowest point in 2011-12
