Rebels arrested for allegedly recruiting

Two alleged motorcycle gang members have been charged with attempting to recruit young men in Queensland.

Police say that patched members of the Rebels motorcycle gang met a group of younger men in Redcliffe, just north of Brisbane, last month to lure them into joining a new Moreton Bay chapter of their outlawed club.

Detectives also allege the two men charged are former Western Australian patched members of the Rebels.

They say the pair recently moved to Queensland and were helping a former member of the Brisbane Virginia gang to create the new chapter to be based at Redcliffe.

Investigations into the gang's recruitment activities led police to search three properties where they found a member wanted for allegedly wearing gang paraphernalia in a Townsville licensed premise last month.

It will also be alleged that police located dangerous drugs (steroids), restricted drugs and a doctor's prescription pad.

As a result, several men, aged 23 to 44, were arrested and charged with various offences, including two charged with recruiting persons into a criminal organisation.

All of the men have been given bail and will appear in the Redcliffe Magistrates Court on April 15.
