Convicted rapist back in Brisbane jail

A dangerous Queensland sex offender who alleged removed his tracking device and fled to NSW is back in prison after facing a Brisbane court on Saturday.

Convicted rapist Damien Paul Kennedy, who was on supervised release, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon in Wollongong during a routine traffic stop by the local highway patrol.

Police started hunting for the 28-year-old after he allegedly removed his electronic monitoring strap on Monday while in Brisbane's southern suburb of Salisbury.

Kennedy briefly appeared in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday morning on two charges.

He has been charged with contravening a supervision order on October 25 at Wacol and contravening an order by removing an electronic monitoring device to prevent location.

His lawyer did not apply for bail and Kennedy was ordered to reappear via video link from prison on November 21.

While on the run, Kennedy taunted police on social media, tagging himself in Rockhampton on Facebook on Tuesday afternoon and posting the words: "Come get me morther f***ers (sic)".

Captured on Wednesday, he faced court Thursday and was extradited to Queensland on Friday.

Kennedy was on supervised released after serving jail time for rape and assault with attempt to commit rape.
