Protesters are set to gather outside federal Immigration Minister Peter Dutton's Queensland electoral office to call for the closure of offshore detention centres.

The Refugee Action Collective will hold the demonstration outside the Liberal MP's Strathpine office during Thursday's rush hour.

Up to 40 people are expected to turn out to campaign for the closure of Nauru and Manus Island, RAC spokesman Mark Gillespie said on Wednesday.

He said recent controversies surrounding the centres, such as the death of Reza Berati, had increased pressure on the government to shut them down.

"The government is trying to hide the human cost from the Australian people," he told AAP.

"But gradually people will start to see what it really involves."

Attendees have been urged to bring homemade signs to wave at morning traffic.
