Rain set to ease in southeast Qld

Residents in Queensland's southeast should get a break from heavy downpours and stormy weather, forecasters say.

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a warning for heavy rainfall for the Gold Coast and Scenic Rim regions, including Boonah, Beaudesert and Rathdowney, on Monday afternoon.

A 88m deluge fell in Rathdowney in a matter of hours, while Springbrook received 95mm.

More showers were likely for Tuesday morning across the southeast but conditions would probably ease throughout the day, forecaster Michael David told AAP.

He said thunderstorms were also more likely to emerge in inland zones rather than the southeast corner.

Despite taking a toll on Queensland's "Sunshine State" reputation, the recent rain is helping to raise declining dam levels.

The combined water level in the 12 southeast Queensland dams that feed into the water supply was at 71.3 per cent as of Monday afternoon.

It comes after levels fell from 85.1 per cent at March 18, 2016 to 70.9 per cent a year later.
