Queensland police request help naming pup recruits

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) has called upon the public to help them naming a litter of police pups.

The online competition was announced with a video featuring a police sergeant “briefing” the six-week old litter.

“You’ll need to lead by example, have good listening skills, be great communicators and always well-groomed,” Sergeant Dean Hansen can be heard instructing the seven pups – whose only response is to whine adorably.

The dogs, which will later undergo training to become general purpose or drug detection dogs, will all receive names beginning with the letter “G”.

The competition runs until 8am on June 27, with the chosen names to be announced on June 30.

The last puppy naming competition was launched in 2015 for a litter bearing names beginning with “W”.

More than 36,000 entries were submitted, ABC reports.
