Alleged drink driver filmed with two unrestrained children in car

A policeman's body camera has captured the moment a woman was allegedly caught drink driving with two unrestrained children in her car.

Queensland Police released the video as part of a new safety appeal for drivers to wear seatbelts to stop preventable deaths.

The video shows an officer finding a child in the wheelwell of a car, before opening the boot and finding another unrestrained boy.

The policeman then breathalysed the woman behind the wheel, who returned a positive sample.

"We're going to have to do something, because you have blown over," the policeman says.

"We've got to do a secondary breath test, but first we're going to have to work out what we're going to do with all the kids."

The incident is one of a number of videos released by Queensland Police showing drivers not wearing seatbelts.

In a different video, a woman pulled over for speeding is caught with a passenger not wearing a belt.

Another body camera captured officers pulling over a man who had pulled his seatbelt over his shoulder without buckling it up.

The safety appeal comes after a rise in the number of deaths of people not wearing the safety devices on the state's roads.

"Within the rise of lives lost that we have seen in Queensland this year, we have seen a sharp rise within that of people not wearing seatbelts," Queensland Police Assistant Commissioner Ben Marcus said.

"The people that we're seeing not wearing seatbelts are in crashes that are otherwise survivable."

This year 219 lives have been lost on Queensland's roads this year, which is 34 more than at the same time last year.
